Rodeo Part 3: Where Cowboys and Bulls Meet

This is the third of three posts from last weekend's Pretty Prairie Rodeo. Finally, what the rodeo is all about, watching man and beast compete. Disclaimer: the fourth photo is technically a steer and not yet a mature bull (Actually, thanks to "Rodeoshooter" correcting me- see comments below- steers are castrated, so I guess this little guy never will become a bull). Hopefully, there will be another rodeo around these parts before my time here is up. It was definitely an awesome event to cover.

Thanks for looking,
Pat

That fourth shot is awesome- great job capturing the action. I'd like to see a tight crop without the horse. Also the last photo is really nice. Pretty light.

Pat you stupidly stated "Disclaimer: the fourth photo is technically a steer and not yet a mature bull."

My question is how STUPID can you be, Pat? If you knew anything about livestock you would understand the balls were CUT OFF the young bull to make him a STEER!! Because of this he will never become a mature bull because he is no longer capable of producing sperm to breed cows or heifers.

He will only be able to fool stupid city slicker newspaper photographers into believing he may some day become a bull. Here in the real world we call that a "pipe dream"!!

Go back to the city!

Dear god Rodeoshooter. You couldn't just kindly point out the error? Chill out and get off this blog- interwebs are too complicated for hicks. Go back to the farm.

Ok Rodeoshooter, I believe you, and you are correct- I don't know anything about livestock. I'll correct that. I would hope though that my lack of knowledge about the subject doesn't preclude me from making some photos of these great events and trying to share some of the action with people who were not able to attend. When this photo appeared in the newspaper the facts were correct- it's a steer- the fact that I think he might still one day become a bull is irrelevant to the the information being presented. The point of this blog is simply to share some of the beauty that I'm constantly aiming to capture with my camera, not expound upon the subject matter I'm dealing with. Absolutely I realize that getting the facts right are central to my job as a photojournalist, but this slight gap is my knowledge here is not crucial to what I'm trying to get across by showing these photos. So again, thanks for correcting my comment, but chill out dude.

Dear Rodeoshooter,
It's okay to be a little pissed because you have also had your balls chopped off. I know, you have to defend your own kind right?

I'm sincerely sorry that your balls were chopped off Mr. lifestock encyclopedia. Yet, you don't need to make up for your lack of testosterone by writing asshole comments.

Best,
balls intact
