In Memoriam Duarte

On July 13, 2007 Edna Duarte was killed in a fire, which was ruled an arson and the death a homicide. Recently her family built a memorial on the former site of the home. Here's a link to the audio slide show.

Cutline: Jorge Duarte, 9, rests against his father Jorge senior's arm while sitting on the porch of their great grandmother/grandmother Christine Criddle's home on the 2500 block of 5 1/2 Ave. in Rock Island on Friday morning, July 18.

Today at the John Deere Classic

Today was my second day shooting the John Deere Classic PGA Golf Tournament/my second day shooting any kind of golf ever. It's probably the biggest single sporting event that happens in the Quad Cities and there is lots of media everywhere. Although slogging an enormous 400mm lens around gets kind of rough with the hills and the heat, it's pretty interesting. Here are a few shots from today- only at 400px longest side since cropping in on a D2H doesn't really afford me the usual 720px.

Cowboys

Today I shot a Cowboy Mounted Shooting Competition at Schone's Friendship Farm in Milan. Apparently these events are the most rapidly growing family equestrian club and sport in the country. It was pretty cool. I went back and forth on the sepia tone thing- cool/gimmick... I'm not sure. I took audio too but I had technical problems getting the files off of my recorder and decided to abandon it. Oh well, I think it turned out pretty nicely anyway. See the slide show here.

There's a storm a-brewin'

Rain clouds loom over Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport, Iowa during a baseball game between the Quad Cities River Bandits and the Cedar Rapids Kernels.
